BURHANİYE FACULTY OF APPLIED SCIENCES
Balıkesir University Burhaniye School of Applied Sciences (BUBYO), which began its educational activities as a School of Higher Education, was transformed into the Burhaniye Faculty of Applied Sciences (BUBFA) by a Presidential Decree in accordance with Article 30 of the Law No. 2809 on the Organization of Higher Education Institutions, published in the Official Gazette dated March 4, 2022. BUBFA was established to train qualified personnel to be employed in the fields of Tourism Management, Finance and Banking, International Trade, and Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, and to carry out academic studies in these areas.
The most distinctive feature of BUBFA, which sets it apart from other faculties, is its emphasis on practical professional training in the areas of education offered. For this reason, BUBFA aims to implement intensive practice programs by making agreements with experienced companies in the sector, enabling students to easily adapt to professional life after graduation.
The language of instruction at BUBFA is Turkish. However, with intensive English courses offered in the departments, students are expected to learn at least one foreign language at a proficient level. In addition, students from other departments are also encouraged to participate in second-language (German) courses provided within the Tourism Management program.
The Burhaniye Faculty of Applied Sciences aims to train mid- and upper-level managers or entrepreneurs who are aware of the importance of personal development, are responsible, have internalized the fundamental subjects of their fields, possess analytical thinking skills, and are sensitive to the problems faced by the country. To this end, the faculty has gradually expanded its programs as follows:
• In the 2008–2009 academic year, the formal education for the Tourism Management Department was launched.
• In the 2009–2010 academic year, the formal education of Finance and Banking Department and the evening education of Tourism Management Department were opened.
• In the 2013–2014 academic year, the evening education of Finance and Banking Department and the formal education of International Trade Department were initiated.
• In the 2014–2015 academic year, the evening education of the International Trade Department began.
• Additionally, in the 2014–2015 academic year, a Master’s program in International Trade and Marketing under the Social Sciences Institute was launched, followed by a Master’s program in Hospitality Management in the 2018–2019 academic year.
• In the 2021–2022 academic year, the first cycle of the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department commenced.
The Burhaniye Faculty of Applied Sciences began its educational activities in the building of the Burhaniye Vocational School in the 2008–2009 academic year and moved to its new building in Örentepe on August 3, 2009.
The faculty building houses 1 Tourism Laboratory, 2 Computer Laboratories, and, within the Education and Practice Facility, a complex that includes 144 hotel rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a laundry facility.
